Farm to School: BDG to look for ways to bring local produce to lunch rooms

The Benton county economic development Board (BDG) announced it will hold an informational meeting on the Farm to School Program June 24th, 7: 00pm at the US Bank meeting Room in Vinton. Tammy Stotts the state director for the Farm to School program will be on hand to explain the program and lead the discussion between growers and education personnel to show how each might benefit from the program.

VU kicks off Vinton's first Block Party of 2014, June 19, 5-8 p.m.

Join Vinton Unlimited for our first Block Party of 2014!   The first Block Party of 2014 is coming up fast!  Grab your Family & Friends on Thursday, June 19th from 5-8pm and join in the fun on the 100 Block of West 4th Street.    This will be a great time for fun, relaxation, games, and music!  Our local businesses will be throwing together all kinds of fun and we encourage you to grab a friend or two and join us.

Vinton's Two-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament Friday, June 20

The registration deadline is just a few days away...   Vinton's Two-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament will be held on Friday June 20, 2014 at the Vinton Country Club. Tee-times will be at 9:00am & 1:00pm. The team fee is $60 for 9-holes at 9:00am or 1:00pm or $80.00 for 18-holes beginning at 9:00am. The price includes green fees, lunch & prizes.

Annual VU 3 Person Best Shot Tournament July 11th

The annual Vinton Unlimited 3-Person Best Shot Tournament is on July 11th and we'd love to see you on the course!    The price has been lowered this year on registration and we've made a few other exciting changes to the day that should make for a memorable event! Click HERE to download the form to get your 3-Person best shot team registered today! The cost is only $20/person for 9 holes,  $10 less than last year! Just like in the past, we'll have Granny Throws and Mulligans available along with great prizes and give-a-ways for everyone who plays.

County Democrats to meet June 26

The monthly meeting of the Benton County Democrats will be held in Vinton at  the Pizza Ranch on Thursday, June 26th at 7:00pm. A Dutch treat buffet will  be available before the meeting. We will be making plans for the county  parades, Benton County Fair and the up coming election. Anyone interested  in helping the Benton County Democrats is invited to attend.

Embroidery Software Club to meet June 14

We will be having Embroidery Software Club this Saturday afternoon June 14, at 1:00. Be sure to give us a call if you plan to make it. Children's Bible Story Hour set for Tuesdays in Vinton

There will be a Children's Bible Story hour, illustrated with felt art, every Tuesday afternoon, from 1-2 p.m. at the Vinton Community Service Center at 407 A Ave (across from the Laundromat). The program includes stories, songs and crafts. For more information, call Joanne Mayhew at 472-5761. Everyone is welcome; those planning to attend are asked to call in case of inclement weather.

Celebration Park grand opening celebration to begin at noon, June 14

The Celebration Park Grand Opening is set for next Saturday, with noon and evening events planned. The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department is planning a grand opening ribbon cutting, and evening festivities for Celebration Park in Vinton on Saturday, June 14. The event begins at noon with the ribbon cutting for the park area, followed by recognition of those who helped with the project and a performance by the Vinton Community Band.  A ribbon cutting for the monument is set for 12:30.

Shellsburg American Legion Riders 5th Annual Charity Ride

Mark your calendars!!! This Saturday, June 7th the Shellsburg American Legion Riders 5th Annual Charity Ride will ride for the veterans! We will depart Shellsburg and proceed to Quasqueton, Central City, Waubeek, Troy Mills and end in Atkins.  We are a group of motorcycle enthusiasts, who are also proud members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and The Sons of The American Legion.

BCCB plans Free Fishing Weekend event June 7

The Benton County Conservation Board is planning a Free Fishing Weekend event at Rodgers Park, this Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to Noon. Join the Benton County Conservation Naturalists and their brand new canoes out on the Lake for some boater safety tips and canoeing instruction.We will also have our fishing poles out for the public to use.
